Less frequented by traditional tourist circuits, this destination offers a genuine escape for travelers seeking authenticity and rich cultural encounters. Come discover the undisputed capital of the rose in the kingdom and immerse yourself in the hidden wonders of the Valley of Roses.

History and Etymology

During the colonial era, Kelaat M'gouna served as a military post where many Moroccan resisters were executed and tortured. In the 1920s, the forces of El Glaoui, allied with France, suppressed local tribes opposed to French occupation.

From the 1970s onward, the Kelaat M'gouna prison, situated in the rose valley, was used for the detention and torture of opponents to Hassan II's regime, resulting in the deaths of approximately 300 detainees according to TelQuel. The existence of this prison, denied by Hassan II, ended in 1991.

Its name derives from the mountainous region of Ighil M'Goun and the Assif river.

She parades on a perfumed and decorated float, while Kelaa M'Gouna residents shower visitors with rose water and toss rose petals.

Visitors are invited to participate in rose picking and witness the production of derivative articles such as rose water and essential oil.
