At the foot of the eastern High Atlas, Tinghir unfolds a 25 km palm grove, spectacular gorges, and a living Berber and Jewish heritage.
Located 51 km from Boumalne, Tinghir, also known as Tinerhir, is the capital of Tineghir province. The town is nestled in the heart of one of Morocco's most beautiful palm groves, offering visitors an exceptional hiking experience. Tinghir is also close to the imposing Todra Gorges, which remain breathtaking despite being affected by mass tourism.
History
Based on the study of rock carvings, this region is one of Morocco's earliest inhabited valleys.
Between the 2nd and 2nd century, Tinghir experienced considerable development thanks to its location on the caravan route, which came from Sudan to Morocco. From the 8th to the 16th century, the town was also one of the stops for caravans traveling from Timbuktu, Mali, to Marrakech and Fez.
Today, the town is an important commercial hub, where various goods, particularly essentials, circulate daily and during major celebrations.

Tinghir enjoys sunny weather year-round. Summers are hot and dry, while winters are cool and dry. For a more pleasant visit, plan your trip in spring, from April to June, or in autumn, from September to early November.
Tinghir is accessible by bus from Marrakech, via towns such as Ouarzazate, Er-Rachidia, Erfoud, and Rissani. You can also make this journey by taking a shared taxi.
